Summary

Scaredy Squirrel's LIKES may include living in a nut tree, but his DISLIKES include the great outdoors! A re-release of the classic Scaredy Squirrel picture book for fans of Jory John & Pete Oswald's The Good Egg

Scaredy Squirrel is not too comfortable with the idea of camping -- unless it's on his couch! There will be no mosquitoes, skunks or zippers to worry about when he watches a show about the joys of camping on his brand-new TV。 But first Scaredy must find an electrical outlet, and that means going into the woods! Will this nutty worrywart's plans prepare him for the great outdoors, or will his adventure end up as a scary story told around the campfire?

To coincide with the launch of the new Scaredy Squirrel graphic chapter book series, this hilarious Scaredy picture book adventure is making a timely and triumphant return!

it is super funny

Thank you NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada for the digital advance reading copy of this book。This would be a good book to read to children that have never had the pleasure of camping and may be afraid of the unknown。 Scaredy Squirrel does a good job of explaining all of the things that could keep you from camping as well as all the exciting things that can happen when you actually go camping。

You seriously can't go wrong with a Scaredy Squirrel story, and this one's no different!Scaredy Squirrel likes to stay in his nut tree。 That's where it's safe。 It's the outside world that is scary and unpredictable。。。you never know when a fluffy bunny could pop out at you! Plus Mélanie Watt's illustrations are simple, yet hilarious and perfectly demonstrate Scaredy Squirrel's insecurities and elaborate plans。5 stars! 。。。more

I thought this had a funny twist at the end to resolve the plot。 The squirrel uses the extension cord not to plug in his new TV for camping TV shows, but rather to plug in his toaster for roasting marshmallows since he finds camping isn’t so bad after all。 I just thought it was cute and funny resolution。

*I read a digital ARC of this title from the publisher via Edelweiss。

Scaredy Squirrel prefers to watch camping on TV rather than get that close to the wilderness。 He sets off to cross the campground and plug in his extension cord。 He discovers that he really does like camping and enjoys the night outdoors。Lots of humor for younger readers with a message to try new things。

Carrie Simas

Scaredy is a great character whose fears help children understand that it is okay to have fears and even to make plans to feel safe in the face of them—but that often life presents opportunities to show us that fears are often unfounded。

The neurotic, list-making squirrel whose story began in Mélanie Watt's Scaredy Squirrel, and then continued in five subsequent titles, returns here for his seventh adventure。 Absolutely unwilling to endure the rigors of camping, from skunks to quicksand, Scaredy Squirrel comes up with a plan that will allow him to enjoy the pleasures of this outdoor activity inside。 But when he decides to watch camping shows on television instead of actually camping, he realizes that he will need to plug in The neurotic, list-making squirrel whose story began in Mélanie Watt's Scaredy Squirrel, and then continued in five subsequent titles, returns here for his seventh adventure。 Absolutely unwilling to endure the rigors of camping, from skunks to quicksand, Scaredy Squirrel comes up with a plan that will allow him to enjoy the pleasures of this outdoor activity inside。 But when he decides to watch camping shows on television instead of actually camping, he realizes that he will need to plug in his TV, requiring him to make a dangerous journey through the nearby campground to the closest electrical outlet。 Will his thorough preparations safeguard him, or will the unexpected blow him off course。。。?This being the fictional world of Mélanie Watt, it comes as no surprise to discover that the path to sciurine security never did run smooth, and our hero encounters various obstacles on his journey that force him into a closer contact with the world than he might otherwise wish。 As is always the case with Scaredy, this proves revelatory, as he is forced to discover the joys of camping。 Of course this in no way implies (nor does it ever) that he has been reformed, or is any less paranoid about the dangers of the larger world。 An amusing tale is paired with the usual fun illustrations in Scaredy Squirrel Goes Camping, which I would recommend to fans of the character, as well as to any young children who might themselves have some reservations about outdoor activities。 。。。more

Lower PrimaryAnimal FictionThis book was cute! I think young students would enjoy this book, and it's main character Squirrel。 I though the book was charming and entertaining。 It was an easy read and I really enjoyed the illustrations throughout。 The pictures were so well done, and they really did add to the storyline of the book。 I think that this would be such a fun book to have in class。 Lower PrimaryAnimal FictionThis book was cute! This book was really good and unique! I love the illustrations and how the author makes it look like a map and an actual survival guide to going camping。 I think this book is great for students who may not have an opportunity to go outside and experience nature or who may even be frightened by it。 Animal fantasy and is in the 2nd-4th grade range

Scaredy Squirrel loves camping!。。。 in front of his TV。 But when his new TV needs a better electrical outlet he's going to have to brave the outdoors to get it plugged in。 So he prepares in typical Scaredy Squirrel style。Well, that was unexpected! Of all the things he was preparing for, that was not the one I thought might happen! Another fun adventure with Scaredy Squirrel where he over-plans and over-reacts, but learns a good lesson in the end。 No content issues。 Scaredy Squirrel loves camping!。。。 in front of his TV。 But when his new TV needs a better electrical outlet he's going to have to brave the outdoors to get it plugged in。 So he prepares in typical Scaredy Squirrel style。Well, that was unexpected! I could never get tired of Scaredy Squirrel。 This time, he decides to go camping。 Who, especially in Washington state, could not relate to that? All of the Scaredy Squirrel books have the same layout, just a new problem and new solutions。 This time Scaredy is looking out for things like the Three Bears, penguins and quicksand。 What I liked about this book is that although Scaredy is a bit over the top, children could easily be taught things such as how to act in the woods, what to look for, how I could never get tired of Scaredy Squirrel。 This time, he decides to go camping。 Who, especially in Washington state, could not relate to that?
